Controlling Rabbits in the Garden

Can it be done? Kathy was wondering so here's my thoughts on it.

Don't provide habitat - brush piles, wood piles, heaps of debris all make good living quarters for rabbits. Pruning up lower branches on trees and shrubs also helps to eliminate 'cover.'

Some folks shoot them, not saying you should......just saying I have heard of this method.

Other folks have cats and dogs that keep the population down. Yes, even declawed cats can kill rabbits.

Fencing is the most effective. Use a sturdy fence and run chicken wire around the bottom, even the smallest rabbit likely won't get in.

Using sprays: there are garlic sprays, rotten egg sprays and more. Not sure of there effectiveness, likely to keep ME out of the garden!

Moth Balls: DON"T DO IT! When it rains they melt and seep into your soil. They are made of formaldehyde.....do you want that in you soil?

Planting enough for everyone is not practical.......good food source.....they'll just make more!
