Growing Specialty Fruits

Hey - try something new in the garden!

For many folks out there...the seed and plant catalogs are piling up. It's always great to include some fruits in the garden or landscape. There are years worth of rewards to reap once the production starts. Here is my list of easiest in order and most worthy to grow.

  1. rhubarb (actually not a fruit- botanically, but used as one)
  2. raspberries
  3. strawberries
  4. currants
  5. plum trees
  6. apple & pear trees
Easy to grow, but can become invasive - so beware;
  1. gooseberries
  2. wild raspberry
Be sure to give your plants the recommended space required. They look tiny now, but think 10 years down the road. Fruit trees may need a 'spray' program to keep the fruits looking good and disease/insects away. Many organic products can be found at www.gardensalive.com
I have done previous detailed articles on many of these fruits, please type a kind in the search box for more info.
