Weeds everywhere of course. If you don't remove them, they will quickly take over the plants you are trying to grow. Getting them while they are small before they rob your plants of nutrients and water is always best, but doesn't always happen. If you use a tool to cultivate, be careful near the base of your plants. Best to hand weed within 8 inches around the plant. One swift move with a sharp hoe can cut off or damage the good plant, or digging around it too deep can disrupt the root system. Weeding small plants can be challenging, sometimes the good plant comes out with the weeds. Weeding is on my schedule today, hand weeding the 10 varieties of dried beans. Only planted about 200 feet of each kind, they are open pollinated, so will save some seeds to plant next year and some to sell this year. The MOST critical time for pulling weeds is of course BEFORE they go to seed and spread around for next year.
I hate weeds.
At the farm we are also picking green beans, lettuce, spinach, summer squash, beets, broccoli and herbs. Tomato and peppers soon! Sweet corn very soon, if we can catch those raccoons that are tearing into it. @?%^*@_^*@_*!!!!!!!
Watering........it's a daily chore for our potted plants, at the farm and at the St. Peter Co-op.
Our lettuce mix and herb bouquets with recipes included and our flower bouquets can be found at the co-op as well. Earthworks has been selling products to the Co-op since 2006.
We are at the St. Peter Farmer's Market on Tuesdays from 2:30-5:30, and on Saturdays from 8-10ish only. Then I run the rest of the baked goods to Mankato where we can usually sell all of it. Look for our painted canopy top 'Earthworks Gardens.' Sometimes it's me, and sometimes it's my sister working. We mostly have our baked goods, but also some veggies and bouquets are possible! In extreme heat or stormy weather, we will likley skip out. I will always post here if you are wondering, or call me.
Thursdays, we are at Runnings parking lot in New Ulm from 2:30 - 5:30
Mankato,, Madison East Mall parking lot on Tues and Thurs 3:30-6, and Sat. from 8-12. Again always there unless uncooperating weather.
We also stop at 4 assisted living communities on our way to our markets, they just love it! We set up for about 15 minutes, a little mini market for resisdents and staff.
