It looks safe weatherwise to start planting warm weather crops like tomato and peppers. For details on planting tomatoes, check out my blog posting for April 23. Wind protection of some sort can be a life saver for your plants. If you have a permanent garden spot, consider planting a row of low growing shrubs on the prevailing wind side. The shrub row can reduce your air flow from wind 50%. When your plants don't spend all day using their energy to keeping themselves upright or replacing water loss, they can concentrate on growing for you! Be sure your plants are watered in advance of transplanting. If they are already stressed out, allow them to recover several hours or a day before installing them. Do not take plants out of the pot until you are ready to plant, one at a time. Tiny roots start to dry out in 20 seconds so handle quickly.
We will have our transplants & perennials at the Mankato market Sat. 8-12 & Tues and Thurs from 3:30-6. At the field as well see directions on hours on right.
Baked goods at the field today. stop by and try our nearly famous Cinnamon Rolls & breads.

I was at the Farmers Market for the first time this spring. I bought some wonderful dill buns (really appreciate Diane selling them in 4 packs!)they are highly recommended!! I'm convinced that you allow me to live beyond my means simply by being able to enjoy some of the finest baking in Minnesota. It's such a wonderful pleasure to have fresh crafted bread . . . every weekend. Not to mention the wonderful Iris blooming in my yard right now as well as the peony's. The only downside is I'm running out of room. Thanks for all your work Diane and Frank. . . I look forward to every Saturday morning!! Earth works First :)
ReplyDeleteMark, Mark, Mark. Thank you so much! Folks will think I paid you for such a wonderful compliment. I missed seeing you & everyone Saturday as I took an opportunity to sleep from 7am - 9 am! I'd love to see your garden someday too! Main iris and peony bloom here in about 2 weeks, I'll be posting my predictions as plants develop. Thanks again Mark, always brings a smile!
ReplyDeleteI forgot to mention the Olive Parmesan bread . . . another winner. There's a reason I get there at 8:00 a.m. Cinnamon rolls, wonderful breads, and flowers . . . what a great way to start the weekend :-) BTW, as I was walking away to get my asparagus, I heard a man and woman talking to each other wondering why the crowd of people around your booth . . . I had to tell them to go buy some bread or a roll and they'll wonder no more. You're becoming famous '-)
ReplyDeleteThanks again Mark! I am making one of your 'favorites' for Saturday....Orange Cinnamon rolls. Glad you liked the Olive bread. Planning to make Kalamata Olive and Feta Cheese loaves for Saturday too!
ReplyDeleteNo napping this Saturday......I'll be there!
