I love flower beds made with stones, rocks & boulders! These photo's are pre-tornado, before the landscape got so messy! So one warm day in the spring of 2003, I spied this huge pile of stone that had gotten excavated on the property during construction of the new road. It was from an old cistern. Hmmm...what to do? I decided to dry stack this wall on a slope to create a garden bed. One afternoon and it was stacked. Then I lined it with woven fabric to keep the soil in the sides, and weeds from growing up from the bottom.
Next step, Scruffy and I filled it with soil, than she had to take a break! Then I filled it with perennial plants, and in the fall also stuffed in lots of tulips. I love beds at these stages - so weed free!
The picture above was in the spring of 2005. All the early spring colors in this bed were purple or blue. Iris blooming on the left, purple tulips in the middle, blue flax blooming in th front. All these photos are the same bed, just from different angles.
This picture was taken in 2004, the first summer after installation, very filled in already. Garden Phlox are the bloomers here. Earthworks will have 100's of potted plants for you to choose from this spring & summer.
May is only a few months away, start your 'bed' planning now!
