My favorite sound of spring!

Just heard it outside......the redwing blackbirds singing their song in the dried cattails.
Florida, here we come!

New Toys at Earthworks

Finally, a real corn planter & cultivater. I was told to get a can of green spray paint as quickly as I could...no actually I think it was more like an ORDER! =)

Not many veggies as tasty as fresh crispy sweetcorn dripping in butter. We mostly sell our sweetcorn at the field location, as there is never enough left to bring to the Farmer's market.

Unlike many other vegetable plants, there is ony 1-2 quality cobs on each plant, and that's it, the plants are done for, unlike tomatoes that you can pick off for 2 months. Next week we will start planting crops in the soil inside the greenhouse. Last year we planted tomatoes in the big hoop March 23. The air temp was 110, and the soil temp. was 72. Perfect.
We will be on vacation till next Tues., so meet me back here then!

Green Muffin Tops?

Aren't these interesting little plants? Meet Dianthus 'Tiny Rubies.' They are a great front of the border plant. They get very tiny pink flowers mid-summer. These would be great plants for a rock garden. They also grow quite quickly, these were started from plugs about 2 months before this photo was taken.
Invasion on the Tiny Rubies! We will have these potted up for sale this spring.
